Us and them (not finished yet)

KMLA students, as well as faculty members, identify the whole student body as a family. One of the most frequently used KMLA jargon would be family for not having a clear reason. but unlike the image of a real family, two groups ins KMLA show clear conflicts about numerous issues; they continuously fight not even recognizing the meaning of family. As the 24th president of the executive council, a group I belong to is the students. We (Us) compose the majority of the whole school body, and, in fact, we are the practical, financial, physical owner of the school because KMLA can't stand alone without the tuition. To mention some points that bind us, we are bound by the school name KMLA. The title of our school - Korean Minjok Leadership Academy - gives us high self-esteem, This nickname (KMLA student) provides a name tag to us that makes us believe that we deserve such quality education, school facilities. We tend to often describe ourselves as scholastic masochists. What a fancy nickname to name ourselves. Although we always complain about the high standards that school gives to us, we use them as an achievement often we leave KMLA. Our school's harsh restrictions are often criticized by us, but we commonly refer to these rules as an element that proves our personal aptitude. No matter how many times we speak along our school motto and EOP principles, we tend to make fun of it and are prone to override them. We are bounded in chains that are too toilsome for a normal teenager to bear. The hardships bonds us harder than before as they get harsher.

On the other hand, they are the entity which manages the school. They force such doctrines and give penalty points for not following the regulations, while they aren't even following those laws. The starkest example would be smoking. Whenever they smoke in groups and smell bad odors from them, we consider them as turbulent, non-stationary beings. Since they know we can't override their authority, they tend to act as if they don't have any laws applied to them. They are adults who are corrupting the true meaning of the title-teacher- which should depict the exemplar of behavior. They seem to hardly sympathize with what we feel and put their hands on the ear like a kid. Numerous discontents are asked but only some of them are answered and practically done. The biggest thing that bonds them is self-contradiction saturated with authority.

As the 24th president of the executive council, I am seeing them eye to eye, having lunch together, hearing their personal opinions. I now actually understand them as an individual. What if we were them and viewed ourselves? We would just look smart juveniles filled with self-esteem and only being self-interested. To be more specific, Mr. Kim was in the same position with me. He was also the representative of the school faculty, and he showed the school's inner part which is also confined by several restrictions. LIke I can't control the whole student body easily, he couldn't also maneuver the school faculty as an ideal teacher. They are the same human like us, and we were just being self-interested just because we consider ourselves talented and young.

Aforementioned information makes a stark common point for two groups. They are both self-contradictory as well as immature. One thing that divides us and them is the position. They need to serve as an adult as well as a mentor while we are tending to be yound and asking for just only what we want. To the basic, we are both immature and clumsy at managing to be the ideal part of the school. That is the reason why we should be considered as a family and need to rely on others.

  1. Could be a decent college essay with more creative methods of hooking and progressing the central idea. Basically more Mr. Kim and more narrative rather than analysis. Maybe revisit this next year.
